Henry W Heisch
Henry was born on the 10th of June 1872 in Latendorf, Germany, and he enlisted in the US Marine Corps on the 2nd of April 1898, in Mare Island, California. He was a Private when he deployed to China in support of the Boxer Rebellion and it was his actions there that would earn him the Medal of Honor. The citation reads:
In action against the enemy at Tientsin, China, 20 June 1900. Crossing the river in a small boat while under heavy fire, Heisch assisted in destroying buildings occupied by the enemy.
Henry had been selected, along with two others, by Corporal Edwin Appleton to cross the river and destroy buildings that were being used as cover by snipers. He received the Medal of Honor from President Theodore Roosevelt on the 22nd of March 1902, and he received an honorable discharge from the Marines on the 1st of April 1903. Henry was married to Ida and the couple resided in California, with no record of having children that I could find. On the 10th of July 1941, Henry William Heisch died at the age of 69 and he and Ida are buried in the Tulocay Cemetery in Napa, California.
