Edward was born on the 8th of August, 1871, in Hixton, Wisconsin and he joined the US Army in Washington. He was a member of the 2nd Oregon Volunteer Infantry Regiment when he deployed to the Philippines and was with Young’s Scouts when his actions earned him the Medal of Honor. The citation reads:

With 11 other scouts without waiting for the supporting battalion to aid them or to get into a position to do so, charged over a distance of about 150 yards and completely routed about 300 of the enemy, who were in line and in a position that could only be carried by a frontal attack.

Edward received the Medal of Honor on the 24th of January, 1906 and he later joined a police department, becoming a police sergeant. Edward Eugene Lyon died on the 18th of November, 1931 at the age of 60 and he is buried with his wife Leona in Hollywood Forever (also known as the Beth Olam Cemetery and the Hollywood Memorial Cemetery), in Hollywood, California: Columbarium 18, Niche 15, Tier 6.
