Charles was born on the 5th of June, 1872, in Long Prairie, Minnesota, and he was a Private in Company G of the 1st North Dakota Volunteer Infantry when he was deployed to the Philippines. His actions on the 13th through the 16th of May, 1899 earned him and twelve other members of Young’s Scouts the Medal of Honor. The citation reads:

With 21 other scouts charged across a burning bridge, under heavy fire, and completely routed 600 of the enemy who were entrenched in a strongly fortified position.

Charles P Davis received his Medal of Honor on the 28th of April, 1906 and he died on the 28th of May, 1943 at the age of 70. He is buried in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, North Dakota: Section C, Site 437.
